Mark Tobey

American, (1890–1976)

Mark Tobey was born in Centerville, Wisconsin in 1890. He attended the Art Institute School in Chicago where he grew his love for abstract imagery, murals and illustrations. Tobey became a fashion illustrator in Chicago and New York before finding the art department at The Cornish School in Seattle, Washington. Tobey had a solo exhibition at the Whitney museum which allowed him to travel around the world. He died in Basel, Switzerland in 1976.
