American, (1885–1973)
Ralph Stackpole was born in Williams, Oregon in 1885. He attended the San Francisco Art Institute, the Mark Hopkins Institute of Art, and the École des Beaux-Arts in France. He returned to the states and established his own studio in San Francisco, California. Stackpole also taught at the San Francisco Art Institute for twenty years as the head of the Sculpture Department. He then taught private sculpting classes at the California Labor School before moving back to France. He died in Puy-de-Dôme. France in 1973.
