American, (1880–1963)
Henrietta Shore was born in Toronto, Canada in 1880. She attended St. Mary’s College and the Art Students League in New York. Shore travelled between Toronto, Europe, and New York teaching classes and doing solo exhibitions. She moved to Los Angeles and became a founder of The Los Angeles Modern Art Society, (a group who strived to bring recognition to more experimental artists). Once the group disbanded,she moved to Carmel, California where she opened her own studio and exhibited until 1930. She died in San Jose, California in 1963.
