Swedish, (1871–1954)
Birger Sandzen was born in Blidsberg, Sweden in 1871. He attended Skara College and Lund University. Sandzen taught language, art, and vocal music at Bethany College in Kansas. He became the principal art instructor at Bethany College until his retirement in 1946. Sandzen was a founder of the Mid-West Art Exhibition, and was a part of organizations including; the Prairie Water Color Painters, the Prairie Print Makers, the Philadelphia Water Color Society, the new York Water Color Club, the Society of American Etchers, and the Taos Society of Artists. He continued to paint until his death in Lindsborg, Kansas in 1954.
