Wolfgang Paalen
Artist
Austrian-Mexican,
(1905–1959)
After doing some research in August 2013, Wolfgang Paalen's copyright is not in the public domain and there is no foundation in his name and no one handling his estate according to the Aaron Payne Fine Art Gallery in Santa Fe. But we can still publish his painting by including "© Estate of Wolfgang Paalen" in the credit line as suggested by the Palm Springs Art Museum.
Wolfgang Paalen was born in Vienna, Austria in 1905. He studied under Fernand Léger for a short period of time before becoming a member of the Abstraction-Creation group which was created to counteract the influence of the Surrealist group led by André Breton. He left the group and in 1935 joined the surrealist movement and started his own counter-surrealist art-magazine the DYN. Paalen died in Taxco, Mexico in 1959.
