Mexican, (1902–1968)
Leopoldo Mendez was born in Mexico City, Mexico in 1902. He attended the Academy of San Carlos, and the Escuela de Pintura al Aire Libre. Much of his work involves political and social activist themes, relating to the Mexican Revolution and against the rise of fascism. He created illustrations for many political art magazines throughout his career and taught under the Cultural Missions programs of the Mexican Secretariat of Public Education in Jalisco and the State of Mexico. Mendez died in Mexico City, Mexico in 1969.
