Elaine Mayes

American, b. 1938

Elaine Mayes was born in Berkeley, California in 1938. She attended Stanford University and the San Francisco Art Institute. She started as an independent photojournalist working for different magazines and graphic designers in San Francisco before becoming a professor. Mayes taught at the University of Minnesota, Hampshire College, Bard College, and the New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. She currently lives in New York continuing her photography and being Professor Emeritus.
