American, (1922–2000)
Leonard Baskin was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1922. He attended Yale University, the New School for Social Research, Académie de la Grande Chaumièrein Paris, France, and Accademia di Belle Arte in Florence, Italy. While in school he founded the Gehenna Press which is a limited edition fine arts press in the United States. Baskin taught printmaking and sculpture at Worcester Art Museum, and Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. His artwork is exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Vatican Museum, and the Smithsonian Institute. He died in Northampton, Massachusetts in 2000.
