American, (1894–1963)
John Ward Lockwood was born in Atchinson, Kansas in 1894. He attended the University of Kansas and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, then left his studies to serve in the Army. Lockwood taught at Broadmoor Academy in Colorado, the University of Texas, Austin and at the University of California, Berkeley. After teaching he returned to Mexico to paint. He died in Talpa, New Mexico in 1963.
