American, (1902–1988)
Belle Baranceanu was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1902. She attended the Minneapolis School of Arts and the Art Institute of Chicago. Baranceanu was a teacher and exhibitor during the 1920s. When the Great Depression hit she became involved in work programs for artists and painted murals for the federal government. Her artwork is exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art, and the International Carnegie Institute. She died in La Jolla, California in 1988.
